Lasallian Speaker Advocates for Living a Purposeful Life

"I believe that by sharing my experiences and insights, I can encourage others to embrace their own unique gifts and talents and to live lives of purpose, compassion, and integrity, in keeping with the values of Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University and the Lasallian heritage,” commented Sofia Khan.

The Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University Bachelor of Science in Nursing recipient delivered the Lasallian Address at the May 11 Afternoon Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony in Romeoville.

Khan employed her Lasallian Address to inspire fellow graduates to harness their talents and passions to enable them to make a difference in the world.

The Heritage Scholarship recipient detailed how the Lasallian principle ‘Concern for the Poor and Social Justice,’ “fuels my dedication to addressing systemic inequities and advocating for policies and initiatives that promote fairness and equality.”

For each Commencement, one graduating senior is chosen to deliver this address, a speech that reflects the principles that guide the University’s Mission as they relate to the speaker’s personal life, and that recognizes the values of diversity, social justice, and service to the poor.

Passionate and driven, Khan embodies the Lasallian values through her dedication to campus life involvement and advocacy for social justice and mental health awareness.

Speaking from the podium at Commencement was not the first time the volunteer for , Suicide & Crisis Hotline, and led her peers.

Leadership roles were abundant for Khan during her studies at Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University. The Naperville resident notably participated as co-founder and vice president of the Muslim Student Association, peer tutor through the Center for Academic Success & Enrichment (CASE), mentor through the CONHS Leadership and Mentor Program (LAMP), and member of the Student Nursing Association.
