New Solar Array Powers Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University

Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University officially dedicated its new 1-Megawatt solar array on April 27 at its Romeoville Campus. The 2,612 panels across five acres of land are now supplying the 410-acre campus with up to 7 percent of its power.

“As a Catholic university and leader in , research and operations, we’re excited to begin this renewable energy project that augments our commitment to being good stewards of God’s creation,” said Dr. David Livingston, president of Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University.

This project will help provide transformative experiences for Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University students as they learn and live in the solar-powered space. Electrical engineering, computer science and environmental science students are expected to gain valuable field experience as they have access to the solar array to learn the operations of the system and conduct research.

“We are truly appreciative of Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University Board of Trustees Member Dr. Sarode Pundaleeka for his generous contribution to this project and Pivot Energy for its role in installing these panels,” added Livingston.

On April 27, the Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University community gathered to dedicate the solar array in honor of Brother James Gaffney, FSC, president emeritus of Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå University. During his leadership of the university, he oversaw numerous and earned the university many honors for its environmental friendliness. 

Speakers during the dedication ceremony included Jacob DeMarais, associate director of University Ministry and coordinator of Ministry Service, Father Dennis Lewandowski, university chaplain, Dr. David Livingston, president, Dr. Sarode Pundaleeka, board member and donor, Brother James Gaffney, FSC, president emeritus, and Caitlin Shanahan, student.
